I’m Steve. Ex army and currently running a small but busy tree surgery business here in the heart of the Brecon Beacons.
As much as I enjoy my job, I see so much waste and would like shift my efforts in to ensuring the complete tree is utilised and made best use of. It’s often a cold wet and miserable time however the results are very rewarding. So please get in touch for some more info.
Obviously it’s free for me to come have a look and see what I can do to make best use of what you have.
Wood milling is a labour of love. It’s jolly hard work and messy. However the results are fantastic.
I will visit your chosen log or logs and give a free evaluation on what I predict can be milled. Sadly it’s almost impossible to see what’s inside the wood until you get going but I can take an educated guess based on what I see and advise on what I believe can be achieved.
All planks will be stacked neatly and in accordance with what works best for that chosen species of tree. Also a rough time frame of how long for it to be stacked and seasoned before it can be used.
I can also take a piece of wood that’s too big for a commercial wood mill and with their guidance cut it down to a workable piece for them to mill. There are so many large logs going to waste due to the logistical issues of getting it to a mill. I can provide a solution.

All mess will be cleaned up of course and you will be left with just the stacked planks.
Everything will be documented so you have a full square footage and thickness of wood. For future projects or your carpenters info.

So, log splitting…..
If you have had tree works done and have laying timber on the floor I can come along and cut up then with my machines split it in to whatever size works best for your fire.
I’ll give advice on best area to stack it and will bring pallets if needed to allow the air to flow through it. And I’ll of course neatly stack it.
I’ll give a current moisture content and advice on how best to enhance the seasoning process and will document for you the species of wood and moisture content at that time. Also provide a rough time frame until the wood is at its most optimum water content for the most efficient burning.
Another option is standing timber works. As a qualified and experienced tree surgeon I can climb, dismantle and fell any tree, assuming no tree protection orders or conservation area, and split on site and stack.
With the current cost of firewood, if you have fallen trees, timber or having work done, this is the most cost effective way to keep the fire stoked during the colder months.

I run a tow along machine that is approx 4ft wide and a smaller yet equally powerful machine that will fit through gateways and can be manoeuvred in to place by one person. Please see images for more information on all log splitting work and machinery used.
